The Importance of Maintaining an Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Why is it important to eat an anti-inflammatory diet? By eating certain foods that our body considers "foreign", it becomes inflamed in order to protect us. But when we eat these "foreign" foods too frequently, the process of over-inflammation makes us more vulnerable to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, and even Alzheimer's!

These are the foods that can inflame our body. Try to avoid eating them at all or if you are going to eat them, do not eat them very frequently:
- Refined carbohydrates such as white bread and processed foods
- Desserts and things that contain too much sugar such as carbonated water or juices
- Red meat and sausages
- French fries and other fried things
- Margarine, crisco or other things that contain trans fats

We also recommend including more of these anti-inflammatory foods in your diet:
- Tomatoes
- Extra virgin olive oil (eat it raw - do not cook with it)
- Leafy greens (especially dark ones like chaya, arugula, spinach and kale)
- Walnuts
- Fruits (especially berries and oranges)
- Turmeric and garlic
- Legumes

In general, keeping at least 80% of your diet consuming whole, organic foods will keep you disease-free, especially if you combine it with exercising and being around people who love you and give you a feeling of belonging.
